Fresh, The Wild Beer Co
It’s been a while since I threw one of these online, sorry about that. Lets get back into the swing of things.
Brewery: Wild Beer Company
Brew: Fresh
Type: Pale Ale
ABV: 5.5%
What have got for you this time? A pale ale from the brewer’s fronted by that familiar angry stag, the Wild Beer Company.
Fresh, is Wild Beer Co’s core pale ale. A fragrant, flavoursome beer that combines two styles of hops. Now which hops exactly, varies from brew to brew based on what’s in season at the time, and more to the point, what is the best crop of the season. As long as they bring Fresh a crisp, hoppy taste with a distinct bitterness, in they go. The combination changes every 6 months!
Does this combination provide the character promised?
We’ll do what we always do and start with the aroma. I’m holding the canned version of this brew, and as we know, cans can be the best aroma retainers. Crack, and release. As the name suggests, the smell is fresh, clean, not chemically or musty. It assaults your nose, in a good way. Hard, lemony, hoppy but light.
It pours out very light, fizzy and it frothed up a fair bit, OK it means presentation, possibly not great, but it gets rid of that over carbonation, lets it settle easier in the stomach, and the froth dies down quick enough and lies atop a properly pale, yellow off gold ale.
It’s a great introduction to an equally great taste. The first blast is very lemon. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a radler, its just lemony. As the taste works through its layers the citrus stays but it gets bitter. It bites, become more of a deeper, grapefruit but with the ever so pleasing underlay of the carefully selected hops. Despite the heady zest of the flavour, its smooth in the mouth, settling nilly on the palette. Very Drinkable.
This is a clean pale ales packed with flavour, it is very much as the name suggests, Fresh. The taste doesn’t overpower, it pushes you towards another gulp, hanging around in your mouth for a fair while. In that time, it doesn't go stale the grapefruit hangs right in there. The smooth texture makes it very easy to drink. This is a very solid ale. Its definitely one to try, and try again in six months, see if the flavours change.
